What is IPL?
If you struggle with how your skin looks because of sun damage or dark spots, AestheticFX Med Spa can offer you a skin analysis to determine if you'll benefit from IPL (intense pulsed light) therapy. An IPL photofacial is a treatment that rejuvenates the skin for adult men and women with hyperpigmentation concerns on their faces and neck. A photofacial may be a noninvasive procedure; however, it can be highly effective and create impressive results. Beverly Farris, MSN, APRN, ACNP-BC, FNP-C sends intense pulses of light that raise the temperature of the skin cells to set off the natural regeneration process and increase collagen production. As the added nutrients take effect, you should see a healthier layer with an improved tone and decreased spots.
Am I A Candidate For IPL?
An IPL photofacial reaches deep within the layers of your skin to improve many complexion blemishes (especially sun spots and brown lesions) with minimal or no downtime. The best candidates for IPL treatments at AestheticFX Med Spa usually have several problems with their skin, such as sun damage, rosacea, hyperpigmentation (brown spots), rough texture, large pores, redness, freckles, age and sun spots, or broken capillaries. Our team in Frisco, TX will assess your skin to determine if you are a candidate for an IPL photofacial during your initial consultation.

How Does IPL Work?
IPL is done inside our Frisco, TX Med Spa in about 20 – 30 minutes in one of our treatment rooms if performed alone. To prepare for the treatment, the technician will clean and dry the skin to be treated before covering your eyes with goggles. The photofacial is performed using a handheld wand that passes over the skin while emitting pulses of light energy. While most patients will feel some discomfort during the photofacial, it's generally bearable given the short treatment time.
IPL Photofacial FAQ
How much does an IPL photofacial cost?
Every patient case is unique, so your cost for IPL will be dependent on your unique goals. AestheticFX Med Spa offers specials on treatments like IPL often and we take many forms of payment. During your initial visit, we can estimate your cost and recommend the number of treatments needed to match your goals.
How quick are the results from IPL?
Improvements can be seen after each IPL treatment, but final results can be seen around one month after a full series of treatments is completed. It’s common for patients to respond differently to every treatment session. You should see gradual improvements of blotchiness, redness, age spots, and sun spots over time.
What are the possible side effects of IPL photofacials?
It's common to experience mild side effects like temporary swelling, redness, blisters, crusting, or bruising. This should go away on its own within a day or two after the procedure. Your skin will be extra sensitive to the sun and you should keep in mind that sun exposure can affect the results of the procedure. You should also wear sunscreen to prevent problems like redness and spots.
Do I need to prep for IPL?
Before getting IPL, patients are asked to avoid sun exposure and self-tanners for about 2 – 4 weeks prior to the treatment. You should stop using minocycline, tetracycline, doxycycline or Retin-A/Renova several days before your procedure, and may be asked to take aspirin or ibuprofen for one week before the appointment to reduce inflammation, which lowers your chance of bruising. You also need to protect the treated areas with sunscreen.
Why should I get multiple IPL photofacial sessions?
A full series of IPL photo rejuvenation is recommended to produce natural-looking improvements to the appearance of your complexion. Every session helps to fade surface irregularities and spots. Multiple sessions also allow for longer-lasting results.
